Industry: Apparel & Fashion

Press Release Summary: Eco-friendly Green House Gallery, located in the heart of
Houston's Montrose district, is following up its glowing debut with a celebration of
artwork made with re-purposed and recycled materials; the opening reception is on
November 7.

Press Release Body: One of Houston's youngest art venues, the Green House Gallery
celebrated its opening on October 3, garnering enthusiastic reviews as an
eco-friendly collective - and gaining more accolades with its diverse, innovative
collection of artwork in diverse media. While keeping its first "green" roots, the
gallery is clearly establishing an artistic identity in its own right - offering an
eclectic and appealing selection of paintings, prints, giclee, ceramics, metal
sculpture, wearable art and jewelry.

In the upcoming Re-Purpose show, the gallery follows up on its green debut by
showcasing artwork that is truly greater than the sum of its parts. Metal sculptures
by luminary emerging artist Jonatan Lopez transform pedestrian materials such as oil
drums and bicycle parts into whimsical geckos and butterflies, graceful torsos or
bold, dramatic free-standing pieces. Monique Weston's jewelry embraces a wide array
of repurposed materials -- cuckoo clock parts, door hinges, chain saw blades,
acupuncture needles, computer parts, eyeglass screws, and many other unexpectedly
beautiful components. Giclee prints by Lois Morton incorporate recycled candy-bar
wrappers, confetti from concerts and textiles, transforming waste material into
intricate, scintillating images. Nan Stombaugh fashions simple, striking rings from
eye-catching vintage buttons. On a more abstract level, Stombaugh's collages place
conventional images in unconventional contexts, and Lopez' sculpture "Columbine
Crossing" offers haunting commentary using the ordinary image of a school-crossing
sign.

The Green House Gallery fosters a relaxed, welcoming atmosphere where artists greet
visitors and hold art demonstrations, in a stately house that opens onto a
bough-canopied veranda. Unlike many galleries, the Green House provides comfortable
seating where viewers can relax and enjoy the artwork with refreshments. The artists
encourage questions about their media, creative process, and intellectual and
cultural investment in their rich, unique pieces.

Go green at the Re-Purposed Reception and feel the Green House effect on Friday,
November 7, from 6:00 p.m.- 9:00 p.m. Wine and snacks will be served.

The gallery is open from 11 a.m-6 p.m., Thursday through Sunday, and by appointment.
The gallery will also hold a reception and open house every first Friday of the
month during the holidays.
